Thor Trailer Hits Web - Looks Darn Tremendous

The trailer for Thor, previewed at Comic-Con 2010 last Saturday (July 24) hit the Web for swhile until it was pulled by Marvel and Paramount. But darn if it doesn't look tremendous.
The film directed by Kenneth Branagh appears to be both epic and intimate in spots.
Marvel Masterworks: The Mighty Thor Volume 6From S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg from Iron Man films) interrogating Thor (Chris Hemsworth) to a regal Odin (Anthony Hopkins), trickster Norse god Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and also right out of Thor comics over the years, The Destroyer ("unregistered technology," Coulson says. Yeah, right), so fanboys and fangirls can start to go giddy. The clip indicates the death of Odin, though I think it''ll turn out to be "Odinsleep." But any trailer that makes you want to watch it again and again means this could be a great movie adaptation of Marvel's most Shakespeare-like series and it's hard to imagine anyone but Branagh (okay, maybe Peter Jackson) getting it right. And it looks like he has.
For the best Thor material, start with the Stan Lee-Jack Kirby 1960s Marvel Masterworks collections and also the 1980s run by Walt Simonson collected in the Marvel Visonaries.
Thor Visionaries - Walter Simonson, Vol. 1 (v. 1)Thor's majestic hammer Mjolnir was seen in the post-credits tag ending of Iron Man 2 and the God of Thunder will appear in The Avengers, directed by Joss Whedon. Thor is set for release May 2011. The five-minute trailer was up at various times on different sites Thursday and embedded by others, including here, until finally yanked by the studios. But considering the massive positive reaction all around, it wouldn't be surprising to see the official trailer up and going around very soon.

Tiny Teases of Thor Film

'Cross the Rainbow Bridge of Asgard Where the booming heavens roar. You'll behold in breathless wonder. The God of Thunder, Mighty Thor!' - Intro to Marvel Super Heroes segments featuring Thor in 1960s.

Footage from Marvel Studios' upcoming Thor has hit the Internet in a posting from Entertainment Tonight.

Thor, Vol. 1As noted by MTV's Splash Page and Comic Book Resources, there's some interview material with Australian actor Chris Hemsworth talking about his role along with comments from co-star Natalie Portman and director Kenneth Branagh. And all that's okay. (Why do shows like ET think it's just dandy to send a guy who appears to know little about the comic character, who's been around 40 years?  Also bet they don't know squat about Norse mythology at all).  What really matters here are a couple of very short behind-the scenes shots in the first minute, a pre-teaser if you will.

Thor, Vol. 2First, there's a blink-and-you'll miss it look at Hemsworth in his Thor garb, which generally is modeled on Thor's outfit since his return a few years ago in a re-launch run by writer J. Michael Straczynski. But the other bits show him in regular guy wear (what's up with that).  We also get a flash of Anthony Hopkins as one-eyed all-father of the gods, Odin.  He traded that other for wisdom - wonder if they explain that?

The interviews took place in New Mexico, where the film is being shot - a location teased at the very end of Iron Man 2, after the credits. But as all Thor fans know, Asgard resurfaced not too long ago in Broxton, Oklahoma, not New Mexico. Until the home of the gods was destroyed in Marvels recent Siege event.
