Long Beach Comic Con Saturday: Programming Picks

The port city of Long Beach, Calif. hosts the second annual Long Beach Comic Con at the Long Beach Convention Center, October 29-31. Yes, there's trick or treating for kids Saturday and Sunday. Here are some prime picks for panel and screening programing on Saturday:


Superman/Shazam: The Return of Black Adam (DC Showcase)11 a.m.-11:45 a.m.
Exclusive Premiere of Superman/Shazam: The Return of Black Adam Seaside Ballroom B -The all-new Superman/Shazam: The Return of Black Adam, the anchoring piece of the

DCShowcase Animated Shorts Collection.  The animated work stars the voices of George Newbern (Justice League), Jerry O’Connell (Crossing Jordan) James Garner (Maverick, Rockford Files) and Arnold Vosloo (Darkman, Mummy). The 24-minute
short -longer than the other DC showcases for Jonah Hex, The Spectre and Green Arrow - shows the first Billy Batson adventure as Captain Marvel.  with a little help from Supermanand a major obstacle in the form of Black Adam, a DC villain, then dark hero). Warner Home Video releases the DC Showcase Animated Shorts Collection on November 9.


Irredeemable Vol. 31 p.m.-1:45 p.m.
50 QUESTIONS IN 50 MINUTES WITH MARK WAID - Seaside Ballroom B -What it says, with Mark Waid, superstar comics writer  (Irredeemable, Kingdom Come, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four and more) and BOOM! Studios’ Chief Creative Officer. The moderator is Jonah Weiland of Comic Book Resources.


2 p.m.-2:45 p.m.
Marvel Television Presents – The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest
Heroes and Marvel Anime - Seaside Ballroom A - Marvel’s Head of Television, writer Jeph Loeb shows footage, imagery and a full-length
episode from the all-new animated series The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, now airing on Disney XD. Then, the program will feature Marvel
Anime showcasing the full-length pilot episode of Iron Man, set to air on
G4 in 2011. 


Scott Lobdell Has An Announcement To Make!” - ROOM 301 - The second longest running Uncanny X-Men Writer after Chris Claremont has something special to tell the world during a spotlight talk. 


Witchblade Volume 83 p.m.-3:45 p.m.
Top Cow: We Create…Competition- Seaside Ballroom B -  Top Cow publisher Filip Sablik and a Top Cow creators talk about the rest of the year in Top Cow comics, plus 2011, titles such as Artifacts and Magdalena, plus Witchblade and The Darkness and more. All attendees will receive a free gift.


4 p.m.-4:45 p.m.
DIRECTOR’S PANEL WITH LOUIS LETERRIER AND PITOF - Seaside Ballroom A Film-makers Louis Leterrier (Clash of the TitansIncredible Hulk, The Transporter”) and Visual Effects artist Pitof (Alien Resurrection) in a special Q&A.


Soulfire Volume 15 p.m.-5:45 p.m.
The Official Aspen Comics Panel 2010 - Seaside Ballroom B - With Aspen creators that include Frank Mastromauro, Peter Steigerwald, Scott Lobdell, Vince HernandezMark Roslan, Joe Benitez, J.T. Krul, and David Schwartz.


7 p.m.
DARK COUNTRY 3-D SCREENING - Seaside Ballroom A - Another screening of the new thriller directed and starring Thomas Jane, with Lauren German and Ron Perlman


8 p.m.
The Hero Initiative hosts a costume party at the Rock Bottom restaurant and brewery. Prizes will be awarded in different categories: best superhero, best villain, best IDW character, best Boom! character, most creative, best Zombie and more. Admission is just $10 and benefits the non-profit organization that helps creators in need from the comic book industry.
